About Our Company

A theatrical scene with five people, including a woman with a crown and leafy vines on her dress, a man lying on a red couch asleep, and others wearing crowns, set against dark background with red lighting.

WE STARTED SMALL

Class Act was started in 2014.

After many years teaching drama to children and young people, Director Louise Best realised that there was also space in Chepstow for a drama group for adults, which was committed to high production standards and entertaining performances.

For our first production, All That Jazz, there were only ten actors, all of them wondering what they had let themselves in for. Not only did they have to learning lines, they also had a complicated jazz dance for the big finale. Somehow they survived, the audience clapped and cheered, and Class Act was born.

Present Laughter, by Noel Coward

The Drill Hall, Chepstow — 20th–22nd November 2025
(4 performances, 2 alternating casts)

One of our November productions brought Noel Coward’s razor-sharp wit to life with two vibrant casts, each offering their own playful energy and interpretation.
Set in the glamorous world of 1930s theatre, Present Laughter follows the chaotic life of celebrated actor Garry Essendine as admirers, lovers, and unexpected guests descend on his London flat in a whirlwind of comedy.

Performed over four sold-out shows at The Drill Hall, this production showcased the charm, sophistication, and comic precision that makes Coward’s work so irresistible — and audiences loved seeing the story through two unique ensembles.

Private Lives, by Noel Coward

The Board School, Chepstow — 1st November 2025
(2 performances, 1 cast — Afternoon Tea & Cocktails)

Earlier in the month, we opened our Noel Coward double-feature with a stylish, intimate staging of Private Lives. Performed at the historic Board School in Chepstow, audiences enjoyed two special themed performances — Afternoon Tea and Cocktails — making the experience as elegant as the play itself.

Coward’s timeless comedy of romance, rivalry, and razor-sharp dialogue delighted audiences as divorced couple Elyot and Amanda find themselves reunited — accidentally — while honeymooning with their new spouses.
With sparkling chemistry, beautifully observed comedy, and a setting that immersed audiences in the era, Private Lives delivered a perfectly irresistible night (and afternoon!) of theatre.
